From honouring family traditions to creating unforgettable memories, Anita and Pete’s wedding was the perfect blend of culture, love, and joy—an inspiration for any couple looking to merge heritage with a modern-day celebration.
Location
When Anita and Pete set out to plan their wedding, they had one goal: to honor their roots while celebrating their love in a way that felt true to them. Their day was a beautiful blend of Vietnamese traditions and coastal charm, set against the backdrop of Pete’s family home in Geelong.
The gifts: A Traditional Kick Off
The morning started with a vibrant procession led by Pete and his groomsmen—an odd-numbered group chosen for good luck. Carrying bright red trays brimming with symbolic offerings, Pete made his way to Anita’s family, embracing the Vietnamese tradition of presenting gifts to the bride’s family. These trays held a variety of items, always in even numbers, including fruits, betel leaves, tea, wine, cakes, and the star of the show: a roasted pig.
This heartfelt gesture was more than a tradition—it was Pete’s way of showing respect for Anita’s culture and symbolizing the union of their two families.
The challenge: Proving his worth
Before Pete could claim his bride, he had to prove himself worthy—thanks to Anita’s bridesmaids, who had crafted a series of personalised challenges. From makeup trivia to chocolate-themed games and travel quizzes, the tests reflected Anita’s passions and personality. The highlight? Pete’s babysitting skills were hilariously put to the test, ensuring he was up for the future responsibility of family life.
The Lion Dance
Then came the electrifying energy of a lion dance. Originally a Chinese tradition, the lion dance has become a beloved part of Vietnamese culture. The performance—filled with drumming, acrobatics, and dazzling costumes—blessed Anita and Pete’s marriage with happiness and prosperity while warding off negativity. Beyond its symbolic meaning, it brought high-energy joy and plenty of Instagram-worthy moments to the celebration.
The Tea Ceremony
For Anita and Pete, family means everything. The tea ceremony was a heartfelt moment where the couple presented tea to their elders, symbolizing their gratitude and respect for the love and support they’ve received over the years. This intimate tradition offered a chance to slow down and connect with their families before the party kicked off.
The Feast
In true Asian celebration style, Anita and Pete treated their guests to a feast that was as delicious as it was abundant. Overflowing plates, endless courses, and the sizzling flavors of Flying Wok’s catering ensured no one left hungry. Because in Vietnamese culture, food isn’t just sustenance—it’s a love language.
